What is a rehydration IV drip?
A rehydration IV drip is an intravenous fluid infusion that quickly restores the body's proper hydration level. The basis of the infusion is a balanced electrolyte solution that replenishes water and the most important ions (sodium, potassium, magnesium) directly into the bloodstream, bypassing the digestive system.
Unlike drinking water, intravenous hydration acts immediately and does not depend on the rate of absorption in the intestines - which is why it works well when the body has lost a lot of fluids in a short time. The procedure usually takes about 1 hour and is performed exclusively by qualified medical staff.
Composition and who it is for
The base of the rehydration drip is Optylite 500 ml - a balanced multi-electrolyte fluid. In the VIP and Exclusive variants the composition is enriched with magnesium, vitamin B12 and a B-vitamin complex, and in the Exclusive variant with an additional rehydration bottle.
- After intense physical exercise - when the body has lost fluids and electrolytes through sweat.
- During hot weather - with increased sweating and a risk of dehydration.
- After a feverish infection - when an elevated temperature increased water loss.
- In states of general weakness - when fatigue is accompanied by thirst and dry skin.
Before the infusion, the medical staff conducts an interview and assesses any contraindications. A rehydration drip is not recommended, among others, in severe kidney or heart failure.
