What is a hangover IV drip?
A hangover IV drip (after party) is an intravenous infusion developed to ease the symptoms of an alcohol hangover and support the body after drinking. The after party infusion delivers fluids, carbohydrates and substances that correct the acid-base balance straight into the bloodstream, bypassing the digestive system, which is why it works quickly.
An alcohol hangover is a complex clinical state with several mechanisms behind it: dehydration (alcohol is a strong diuretic), the toxic effect of acetaldehyde (a product of ethanol metabolism), electrolyte disturbances (loss of sodium, potassium and magnesium), hypoglycaemia (low blood glucose) and oxidative stress. Symptoms include headache, nausea, vomiting, shaky hands, feeling run-down and poor concentration.
The after party drip acts on those mechanisms that an intravenous infusion can influence, and its composition depends on the variant you choose. All three variants are based on glucose 500 ml, which replenishes carbohydrates and counters post-alcohol hypoglycaemia while also supplying fluid volume, and Natrium Bicarbonicum, which restores the acid-base balance. The VIP variant adds a second bottle, NaCl 250 ml, and magnesium, which replace the sodium, chloride and magnesium lost through the diuretic effect of alcohol; the Exclusive variant also adds vitamin C. The infusion takes about 1.5 hours.

After party drip ingredients
The composition of the hangover IV drip depends on the variant you choose. The base is the same for all three, and the higher variants add a second bottle and further ingredients. Each ingredient has a specific role in easing hangover symptoms:
- Glucose 500 ml, the base (all variants): alcohol suppresses glucose production in the liver, which after a long night without food leads to hypoglycaemia, felt as weakness, shakiness and poor concentration. Intravenous glucose replenishes carbohydrates, brings blood sugar back to normal and at the same time supplies the fluid volume the body needs after the diuretic effect of alcohol.
- Natrium Bicarbonicum, sodium bicarbonate (all variants): alcohol metabolism shifts the acid-base balance towards acidity, which makes hangover symptoms worse. Sodium bicarbonate buffers the excess acid and helps restore normal pH, easing nausea and the general feeling of being unwell.
- NaCl 250 ml, second bottle (VIP and Exclusive): once metabolised, glucose on its own leaves mainly free water and does not replace ions. The second bottle of saline supplies the sodium and chloride lost through alcohol-induced diuresis and raises the total infusion volume to 750 ml.
- Magnesium (VIP and Exclusive): alcohol increases the amount of magnesium lost in urine. Magnesium deficiency shows up as shaky hands, muscle tension, headache and irritability, which are typical hangover symptoms. Replacing magnesium eases these complaints.
- Vitamin C, ascorbic acid (Exclusive): an antioxidant that neutralises free radicals, whose production rises while alcohol is being metabolised.
In short: Standard is glucose 500 ml with Natrium Bicarbonicum, VIP adds magnesium and a second bottle of NaCl 250 ml, and Exclusive also adds vitamin C. You choose the variant when booking, and before the infusion the medical staff check that there are no contraindications to the chosen composition.
Who is the after party drip for?
The hangover IV drip is intended for adults with alcohol hangover symptoms after occasional drinking. The after party infusion is particularly suitable for:
- People with severe hangover symptoms: intense headache, severe nausea, vomiting, shaky hands, dizziness, feeling generally run-down. The drip eases these complaints by supplying fluids and glucose, and in the VIP and Exclusive variants also electrolytes from the second bottle.
- People who need to get back on their feet quickly: those who have important work, family or social commitments the next day and need to be fully functional again.
- Patients dehydrated after alcohol: intense thirst, dry mucous membranes, dark urine and dizziness are signs of dehydration, which intravenous fluids relieve many times faster than drinking water.
- People with digestive problems after alcohol: nausea and vomiting make it impossible to keep down fluids and medicines by mouth, which deepens dehydration. An intravenous infusion bypasses the digestive system and hydrates you effectively despite stomach problems.
Important: the after party drip is meant to ease occasional hangover symptoms. If hangovers happen regularly, this may point to a problem with controlling your drinking. Expected effects of the hangover IV drip
The effects of the after party drip are among the quickest to be felt of all vitamin infusions. Patients report a clear improvement in how they feel while the infusion is still running:
- Quick relief from dehydration: fluid given intravenously rehydrates the body faster than drinking water because it bypasses absorption in the gut. During the infusion, patients already notice less thirst, headache and dizziness caused by dehydration. In the VIP and Exclusive variants, the second bottle of NaCl 250 ml also replaces sodium and chloride.
- Nausea subsides: correcting the acid-base balance with Natrium Bicarbonicum and replenishing glucose ease nausea and queasiness. Many patients feel better within the first 30-45 minutes of the infusion.

1. Assessment of your condition: the medical staff take a short history and check your health: they measure your blood pressure and pulse, and assess how dehydrated you are and how severe your symptoms are. On this basis they confirm that the after party infusion is appropriate and rule out conditions that need a different medical intervention.
2. Preparation: you sit comfortably in a chair or lie on a couch. A nurse inserts a cannula into a vein in your forearm. If you are severely dehydrated (collapsed veins), this may take a little longer.
3. The infusion: the drip runs at a controlled rate for about 1.5 hours. The slow rate is needed because glucose given too fast puts a strain on carbohydrate metabolism; in the VIP and Exclusive variants a second bottle of NaCl 250 ml is also given. During the procedure you can rest or doze, and dimmed lights and quiet help you recover.
4. Monitoring: the medical staff regularly check how you feel, your blood pressure and the progress of the infusion. If you feel nauseous, the infusion rate is adjusted.
5. Finishing and aftercare advice: after the infusion we advise you to keep drinking plenty of fluids, eat light meals and rest.
