dr Agata Niezabitowska
Doctor of psychology, certified addiction therapist
About the specialist
I hold a doctorate in psychology and I am a certified addiction therapist. I provide individual therapy for adults and adolescents. I specialise in working with people struggling with substance addictions (alcohol, drugs) and behavioural addictions (including gambling, workaholism, compulsive shopping, online gaming and emotional eating).
In my therapeutic work, the person - not merely the diagnosis - is what matters most. I focus on discovering the patient's strengths, identifying unmet needs and expressing hidden emotions. The foundation of my collaboration with patients is honest communication and a safe therapeutic relationship. I submit my work to regular supervision.
I have experience in individual and group work with people affected by substance and behavioural addictions, as well as with their parents and loved ones. For several years I worked at the MONAR Counselling Centre in Wrocław, where I conducted individual psychotherapy, therapeutic groups and sessions within the Day Ward for people with addictions. I also served as a hostel supervisor for individuals recovering from addiction.
I currently run an online psychotherapy practice. I believe this is a highly promising form of support for people in need who, for instance due to living abroad, are unable to attend in-person therapy.
I combine my clinical work with academic interests, serving as a lecturer at the University of Applied Sciences in Wrocław. In my academic role, I have had the opportunity to teach students about the psychology of addictive behaviours. I am the author of several research papers published in peer-reviewed national and international journals. I make every effort to keep my knowledge of addiction therapy up to date in order to provide the best possible care for my patients.
