Alcoholism treatment

    Individual Consultations

Individual consultations are meetings with psychologist or therapist. They help to overcome difficulties or circumstances that induced the patient to ask for professional help. Psychologist or therapist, together with the patient, tries to describe the character of those factors and evaluate the area of potential changes.

During the consultations patient can get familiar with the available methods of treatment and choose the best solutions. He also has a chance to meet the specialist that may become his partner in co-working on his problems. Patient taking part in such consultations is not obliged to start the formal therapy, but he may take it as a chance to inquiry about the possible kinds of treatment or as the beginning of solving his problems.

    Duration: 50 min.

Number of meetings: 1-3, depending on the patient’s needs.

    Frequency: 1-2 per week.

The requirement for taking part in consultation is a minimum 7-days long abstinence from alcohol or psychoactive substances. All the conversations being a part of consultations are confidential and the therapist is obliged to provide his patient a full discretion.

    Individual Therapy

Individual therapy is a series of meetings based on direct contact between patient and his therapist. During the meetings the therapist shows the patient the way to observe himself, to get to know his personality and to analyze and understand his existence in various aspects of life. The therapist helps the patient to find the way of functioning of his thoughts and emotions. The crucial thing is to change his way of thinking that has a negative impact on his life, but with respecting borders of his privacy and previously set therapeutic goals. The program of therapy is adjusted to patient’s individual needs.

Therapeutic work is preceded by conversation about difficulties and problems of the patient, leading to setting goals for the next sessions. Working on those issues should be implemented progressively, according to the goals set during the therapist’s and patient’s common work. The therapist should focus on the patient’s condition and satisfaction.

Duration of a single session: 50 min.

Frequency: 1-2 meetings per week, depending on the individual decisions and therapy’s goals.

Number of meetings: depends on individual needs.

Requirement: minimum 21 days of abstinence.

All the conversations lead during the sessions and consultations are confidential, which means that the therapist is obliged to provide his patient a full discretion. All of our specialists are regularly observed and supervised.

    Group Therapy

Group therapy is one of the most popular, effective and recommended treatments for addictions, including alcoholism.

    What are the benefits?

Regardless of the stadium of the disease, there is always a chance to stop its progression and prevent its negative consequences. Since then the patient can start the recovery of his health and life damaged during a long lasting alcohol overuse.

Addiction is a progressive disease that left untreated can lead to death.

    When drinking becomes a problem?

We can come up with the term of addiction when there appeared at least 3 of the following symptoms within the last year:

    • unbearable desire for drinking,
    • losing control over amount of consumed alcohol, despite of prior steps preventing drinking (avoidance, promises)
    • alcohol withdrawal: tremors, hypertension, diarrhea, nausea, sweating, sometimes convulsions or delirium,
    • extended tolerance, growing need for bigger amounts of alcohol to achieve the state of ecstasy
    • life determined by drinking – alcohol is more valuable than work, social life, family etc.,
    • keeping drinking despite of visible damage on health and society.

Addiction is a disease that can be controlled, however, it demands a professional treatment.

The benefits of our group therapy:

    • all the group members struggle with the same problem – alcohol addiction,
    • patient has a chance to take a look at his disease and to confront it with the experience of other sufferers,
    • he can carefully observe his behaviour in social interactions,
    • he can receive support from people having similar problems and experience,
    • he can feel the acceptance from the group (its lack is the common problem of addicts).

    Family support

We know that family and friends of addicted patients usually don’t experience the support. This is why we encourage to check out our offer of available forms of help.

Why do we encourage families of addicts to profit from our support?

Addiction is not a problem of a single person – it involves all the family members. Living with addicted people brings multiple difficulties, suffering, negligence of their needs and emotional problems to their families. This is why families of addicts also require professional support, together with the addicted.

Long lasting living with addicted person causes codependency of their family members. Partner, parents or children often adjust their acts to the behaviour of the addict, determined by his disease. Sometimes codependents realize that their lives are determined by alcohol after long years of such existence. They start to notice their emotional consequences of trying to protect the addict from the next overuse of alcohol, to make them go on rehab or of taking care of their needs. To bring back their life before addiction, they may also need a professional support.
